The Division's web pages in English are quite rudimentary. Most material referred to will be in Finnish. However, we hope that this information will be helpful to our friends abroad.
The schooling seminar ("Vibration Days") has been canceled due to low number of registrations. It was scheduled to September 22-23, 2009.
The Division celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. More information on the event will be available soon.

The Division of Optical Spectroscopy is a part of the Finnish Chemical Society (more accurately: the Association of Finnish Chemical Societies). Its mission is to act as a nationwide forum for the people and communities who are interested in optical spectroscopy, to promote the interaction among its members, and to improve people's awareness of the spectroscopic techniques in general.
The Division was founded in 1989. Its main function has from the very beginning been schooling. Various symposia and seminars have been organized annually. The FTIR symposium is a biannual event that concentrates on one of the central fields of optical spectroscopy, namely vibrational spectroscopy. In addition, the Division has regularly organized schooling seminars in various spectroscopic topics. The Division has occasionally organized sessions at the Finnish Chemical Days. The Division has published a dictionary and participated in the development of validation methods in spectroscopy.
The Division has published a Dictionary of Optical Spectroscopy (price 7 euros). It can be ordered at the office of the Finnish Chemical Society. In the dictionary, there are 1176 terms listed in five languages (Finnish, Swedish, English, German, and Russian).
